NovA

Prompt: For most of the quarter we will be exploring interactive media very broadly speaking and using a game interaction design project to explore topics that arise out of this exploration. Central to this course are the questions: How do different forms of interaction afford us different things? and Do these new configurations change us as humans? In other words, what kinds of (possibly new) meaning can be derived from different types of media interaction? and What new forms of narratives or stories can we tell through different interactions? To explore these topics, we'll engage in novel game interaction design that push the limits of media forms and our relationship to them. Teams will create play experiences that cross and blur boundaries of different types of media and interactions, while also addressing larger societal issues.

NOVA was a captivating project that emerged during my interaction design program, specifically in a class dedicated to the fascinating realm of game theory. This class served as a crucible of knowledge, and its culmination was a dynamic group project that allowed us to synthesize all the theories and principles we had absorbed throughout the semester.

Intriguingly, the class didn't delve into technical skills, but the beauty of collaborative learning meant that each member of our group brought a unique set of talents and expertise to the table. In this endeavor, my multifaceted role spanned several domains. I took charge of Arduino programming, bringing life to the project's interactive elements. Simultaneously, I delved into the world of 3D modeling using Rhino, ensuring that the project's visual aspects were not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Circuit design was another facet of my responsibilities, ensuring that the project's hardware components seamlessly integrated. I also handled budgeting, ensuring that our creative ambitions remained within practical constraints. Additionally, I played a vital role in shaping the creative direction and refining the game's rules.

The fruits of our labor materialized into a compelling prototype that garnered attention when showcased at a games event hosted by MoPop, an institution renowned for celebrating the intersection of pop culture and technology.
